Recreation of the Wedding of Miguel Hernandez and Josefina Manresa
Last Saturday, April 6, the Reenactment of the Wedding of Miguel Hernandez and Josefina Manresa took place. The event was scheduled to take place on March 9, as it was the day on which our protagonists got married, but due to rainy weather forecasts it was agreed to postpone it.
The activity began at 11:30 am from the Plaza Nueva where the Expresión Theater group developed the union of Miguel and Josefina recalling the events of 1937, putting in value the commerce of the moment and the social and cultural commitment of the poet. To do so, they made the so-called “return to the bridges” until they reached the Miguel Hernandez House Museum. More than a hundred people were able to enjoy this dramatized route.
Once they arrived at the Casa del Poeta, only the winners of the raffle held among all the purchases made in the associated stores and hotels in the previous weeks, lived in first person the wedding banquet of Miguel and Josefina.
As the bride and groom offered at their wedding in 1937, rice and crust prepared by the winner of the 2023 Arroz y Costra contest, Raggú, the winner of the 2022 contest, Davinia Martínez, and by this year’s two finalists, Bar Estanco and Restaurante San Pascual, were served.
After this historic event, in which we have remembered our most universal poet, where culture, commerce and our gastronomy have merged, ACMO wants to thank the Department of Commerce of the Excmo. Orihuela City Council, the Miguel Hernández Cultural Foundation and the Expresión Theater Group for supporting this different and attractive initiative.
